    At the beginning of 1945 the commander John Thach, who was already famous for the development of tactics against Japanese aircraft attacks, developed a strategy against the pilots called "Great Blue Blanket." This maneuver envisaged keeping as long as possible aerial patrols around the allied fleet; however, because the training of new pilots was halted, there were not enough elements to keep the fleet safe and stop the Japanese threat.
