    The British attempted to balance their sphere of power and influence within Europe. The British wanted to benefit from German productivity and resources to benefit the British Kingdom economically. At the same time they wanted to reduce Germany's economic and military capability, but only so much, so that Germany could still undermine France's growing economic and military strength in the region.
