    Explanation:

    Italy under the Fascist Government of Benito Mussolini occupied Ethiopia in 1935 in a bid to appear relevant in the face of his ally, Hitler. The Italians had tried earlier in the 19th century and we're repelled but succeeded this time. Ethiopia was only liberated in the Second World War by the British.

    The Soviet Union under the Communist Government occupied Belarus after the First World War with Belarus forming the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic.

    Germany under the Nazi Government of Adolf Hitler annexed Austria, his home country, in 1938 in what was known as the Anschluss.

    Imperial Japan fully in 1905 when they made it a Japanese Protectorate. The Japanese rule only ended after their defeat at the hands of the Allies in 1945.

    Spain under the dictatorship of Franco ruled Morocco as a Protectorate from 1912 by a treaty between Spain and France. The protectorate all but ended in 1956.
