Celia was a slave owned in Missouri. She was convicted of killing her white owner. The jury was comprised of twelve white men which made the verdict very predictable. She also confessed to the crime as she struck him but not intending to kill him. Celia tried to appeal the decision but was denied by the Missouri Supreme Court, following the denial for appeal she was eventually hung.
