The fall of Ghana, Mali was due to numerous internal political disputes which brought disruption in trade and ultimately ended its reign through civil war.

Mansa Musa, emperor of Mali, was a great leader. Under his rule, Mali flourished economically and territorially. When he died, internal political disputes were brought about by Mansa Musa's successors. Rival members of the royal court fought among themselves for leadership of the empire. These conflicts weakened the central authority within Mali which resulted to a civil war.
