How did different civilizations influence one another?

I would have to say the major influences are by force of war, invasion, or in modern times, colonization. When a more powerful country defeats a weaker one, invades it's land or colonizes, it brings it's influences along and over time those influences are adapted and become part of the new civilization.

They influenced each other by trading and buying goods!
