What might have happened if the delegates were not able to agree to the terms of the great compromise?

    They would have had severe money problems, exist in a legal limbo because there was no ruling, the union would have fallen apart because the states were unable to agree, and there would be a power vacuum in which Britain might have been able to step in and take control of the colonies again.
