I believe the answer is: Limited government
The principle of limited government was created in order to separate the power between government branches and prevented the government from transforming into the tyranny. This also made in order to give the most power to the people rather than government officials.

It was the Principle of "federalism" that was build into the Constitution of the United States, since it ensured that power would be shared between the federal government and the states.
