    Stephen Douglas use the principle of popular sovereignty to win passage of the Kansas because he was in favor of letting the states decide if they wanted slavery in the states or not.

    Explanation:

    Stephen Arnold Douglas was a politician of the United States of America and was also a lawyer. In the time period of 1850s he was one of the strongest supporter of sovereignty and was totally in favor of giving the states the rights to decide the ways they wanted to govern their place and the people who lived in that state. He was in favor of giving the right to the state to decide whether they wanted slavery in their states or not.
