South Carolina was the first because they though that their way of life was threatened from the election of President Abraham Lincoln.

South Carolina, along with other southern states seceded as for they believed their slavery dependent lifestyles would be threatened after the election of president Abraham Lincoln. South Carolina along with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas seceded, carrying on an individual government and hosting a war (which they lost in the spring of 1865)
