    3 (4x - 2)

    You have to distribute!

    3•4x is 12x

    3•-2 (three times negative two) is - 6

    So 12x + (-6) or just 12x - 6

    So what you do, is because there is a negative six add a positive six to both sides that way it ends up as

    12x = 30

    Then you want to isolate the variable

    There us a positive twelve so you want to take away 12 from both sides giving you 18

    X = 18

    x = 3

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Use the distributive property and distribute the 3 throughout the equation:

    3 (4x - 2) = 30

    3 (4x) - 3 (2) = 30

    12x - 6 = 30

    12x - 6 + 6 = 30 + 6 - Add 6 to both sides of the equation

    12x = 36 - Divide both sides by 12

    x = 3
