How do you simplify the following

y^2 (y to the power of 2) = - 4

Is this problem unsolvable because you can't take the square root of a negative number?

    It is 2i I standing for imaginary since it is a negative

    square root of - 1*4

    4 square rooted is 2

    and a negative number square rooted is i
