The answer is X=5 if you move all the variables to one side and the numbers on the other and then divide by how much X there is.

2x - 3x + 9 = - 1
2x - 3x = 1 - 9
-x = - 1 - 9
-x = - 10
Change the sign on both sides of the equation
X = 10
