Mudrik installed a device on his car that guaranteed to increase his gas mileage by 10%. The gas mileage increased by 3 miles per gallon after installing the device. How many miles per gallon did he get before the device was installed?

    Let x = gas mileage before installing the device.

    Because the gas mileage increased by 10% which is equal to 3 miles per gallon, therefore

    0.1x = 3

    x = 3/0.1 = 30 mi/gal

    Answer: 30 miles per gallon
