    42 in a 4x to 3x ratio

    4x + 3x = 42

    7x = 42

    x = 6

    43 can be put in a 4 (6) to 3 (6) ratio

    which is a 24 to 18 ratio, also written as 24:18

    Note:

    a (b) = ab = a x b = a times b
