If x and y are the tens digit and the units digit, respectively, of the product 725,278x67,066, what is the value of x+y? The answer is 12 but I can't seem to understand why.

    725,278 * 67,066 = 48641494348 ... now, if x is in the 10 digits spot ... it is 4 ... and if y is in the units spot, then it is 8 ...

    x + y = 4 + 8 = 12
