    Yes, that's an interesting exercise.

    The Celsius temp is ' C '.

    The Fahrenheit temp is 1.8C + 32

    If they're the same number, then C = 1.8C + 32

    Subtract 1.8C from each side: - 0.8C = 32

    Multiply each side by - 1 : 0.8C = - 32

    Divide each side by 0.8 : C = - 32/0.8 = - 40.

-40°F and - 40°C are the same temperature.
