    In (a+b) ^n, there are n+1 terms

    because

    notice

    (ax+b) ^1 = (ax+b), 2 terms, 1+1=2

    (ax+b) ^2 = (ax) ^2+2abx+b^2, 3 terms, 2+1=3

    so

    (2x+3) ^5,

    5+1=6

    6 terms
