Lakeisha has 3 5/8 yards of fabric. She wants to make a dress that requires 2 1/2 yards of fabric. How much fabric will she have left over?

    All you are doing is subtraction. 3 5/8 - 2 1/2 = 1.125 in decimal form.

    1/2 = 4/8

    3 5/8 - 2 4/8 = 1 1/8 yards left over
