A cardboard square, 2 feet on each side, has 3 inches square cut out of each corner so that an open box can be constructed. Find the volume of the box in cubic inches.

    When the four new flaps are folded up, the remaining square is 12-3-3=6 inches on a side, and the height is 3 inches.

    Thus, the volume is 6*6*3=108 cubic inches (base area multiplied by height).
