Two rectangles are similar. One has a length of 12 cm and a width of 9 cm, and the other has a width of 8 cm. Find the length of the second rectangle. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary.

    If the rectangles are similar, then the ratio of corresponding sides are in proportion.

    12/x = 9/8 where x is the length of the smaller rectangle

    Cross multiply to get:

    9x = 12*8

    x = 32/3 which is 10.67 approx
