The Ordeal was the method used by Clovis, King of the Franks, to determine his judgment of the innocence or the guilt of an accused person. He believed God would be the person's judge in the Floating Test, where the accused would be thrown in a lake and sink if he was innocent or float if he was guilty, or the Boiling Water Test, where the accused would place his hand in boiling water and be considered innocent if the burns healed or guilty if they did not heal well.
