Evelyn says that the equation 3 (x - 3) + 5 = 3x + 1 + 4

has infinitely many solutions because the variable terms

    Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

    3 (x-3) + 5=3x+1+4

    (3) (x) + (3) (-3) + 5=3x+1+4 (Distribute)

    3x+-9+5=3x+1+4

    (3x) + (-9+5) = (3x) + (1+4) (Combine Like Terms)

    3x+-4=3x+5

    3x-4=3x+5

    Step 2: Subtract 3x from both sides.

    3x-4-3x=3x+5-3x

    -4=5

    Step 3: Add 4 to both sides.

    -4+4=5+4

    0=9
