The length of a rectangle is 5 meters less than 3 times the width. The perimeter is 46 meters. Find the width.

    Given

    L=3W-5 m

    Perimeter=46 m

    =>

    2 (W+L) = 2W+2 (3W-5) = 8W-10=46

    W = (46+10) / 8=7m

    L=3W-5=21-5=16m

    Check:

    perimeter = (7+16) * 2=46m [exactly!]
