Suppose you want to solve the equation - 3m + 4 + 5m = - 6. What would you do as your first step?

    I would combine like terms are the right side and then subtract four on both sides giving you - - > 2m = - 10

    First, combine like terms to get

    2m+4=-6

    then minus 4 both sides

    2m=-10

    divide 2

    m=-5
