Twice the sum of a number and 3 is the same as 11 increased by the number.

    Its 33 because you times it and that's how I know its 33.

    Twice the sum of a number and 3

    2 (x+3)

    is the same

    =

    as 11 increased by the number

    11 + x

    so ...

    2 (x+3) = 11 + x

    2x+6 = 11+x

    2x-x = 11-6

    x = 5
