How to use range to calculate standard deviation?

    The formula for that is:

    Range = maximum - minimum

    Standard Deviation = Maximum - Minimum / 4

    For example: Bob scores this week were 85, 88, 92, 95, 99. To calculate the standard deviation using range I will need the minimum (lowest) score and the maximum (highest) score.

    Minimum = 85

    Maximum = 99

    99-85 = 14

    Then divide by 4: 14/4 = 3.5

    The standard deviation is 3.5.
