Mary Ann buys 4 2/5 pounds of bananas. She uses 1 and 1/2 pounds making banana bread. How many pounds does she have left?

    4 2/5 = 4 4/10

    1 1/2 = 1 5/10

    Since they have the same denominator you can subtract them and the answer is:

    2 9/10 lbs of banana's left
