A boat traveled 200 miles downstream and back. the trip downstream took 10 hours. the trip back took 50 hours. find the speed of the boat in still water and the speed of the current.

    Hello,

    Going downstream, velocity is 200 mi/10h=20mi/h

    Going upstream, velocity is 200mi/50h=4 mi/h

    Let's V the velocity of the boat

    and v the velocity of the stream

    V+v=20

    V-v=4

    ==>2V=24 = = >V=12 mi/h and v=20-12=8 mi/h
