    From the second equation: y = (10-4x) / 3

    Substitute y to the first equation:

    5x+2[ (10-4x) / 3] = 24

    5x+[ (20/3) - (8x/3) ]=24

    5x - (8x/3) = 24 - (20/3)

    (15x-8x) / 3=17.333

    7x=17.333 (3)

    x=7.428

    Using the second equation to find value of y:

    y = (10-4x) / 3; Substitute the value of x=7.428

    y=[10-4 (7.428) ]/3

    y = - 6.571 (negative 6.571)
