    1 liter = 1,000 milliliters

He started out with 1.2 liters = 1,200 milliliters.

    He drank 200 milliliters.

Left in his bottle, he still had

    (1,200 milliliters) minus (200 milliliters) = 1,000 milliliters

    = 1 liter left.
