    4-2v+12=-8

    16-2v=-8

    -16 - 16

    -2v=-24

    %-2 %-2

    V=12

    First you use the distributive property and multiply v * - 2 and - 6*-2 and you have 4+-2v+12=-8. Now you subtract 12 from - 8 and twelve because if you do it to one side you do it to the other which gives you 4+-2v=-20. Now you subtract 4 from 4 and 4 from - 20 which gives you - 2v=-24. Finally you divide - 2v/-2v which gives you just v now you divide - 24 by - 2 and get v=12 because a negative divided by a negative is a positive.
