A tortoise and a hare are having a race the tortoise is crawls at a constant rate without stopping. the hare (who is confident he will win) hops ahead, stops to wait for the tortoise to catch up than hops again. imagine you plot both animals progress on a distance-time graph (to create a visual aid for this problem) what is the slope of the hares line on the graph during the time that he is stopped waiting for the tortoise to catch up?

a. 0

b. 1

c. 2

d. the line becomes perfectly vertical

    During the time that he is stopped for whatever reason the slope of the distance time graph is zero. The slope of a distance time graph is the speed.
