Let 2 nos. be x & y
x + y = 10
x * y = 16
from 1st eqn, y = 10 - x
substituting in 2nd eqn
x * (10 - x) = 16
10x - x^2 = 16
x^2 - 10x + 16 = 0
(x - 8) (x - 2) = 0
x = 8 or x = 2
y = 10 - 8 = 2 or 10 - 2 = 8
so the two numbers are 2 and 8

8 and 2 because 2+8=10 and 2 times 8 = 16
