    Q=number of quarters

    d=number of times

    1q=25 cents

    1d=10 cents

    total is 1620 cents

    25q+10d=1620

    divide both sides by 5 to simplify

    5q+2d=324

    also

    5 times as many quarters as dimes

    q=5d

    sub 5d for q

    5 (5d) + 2d=324

    25d+2d=324

    27d=324

    divide both sides by 27

    d=12

    sub

    q=5d

    q=5 (12)

    q=60

    60 quarters

    12 dimes
