Brad had a small gathering at a local steakhouse. The steakhouse offers three dinner platters which vary by size and price. They ordered 4 of the 6-ounce platters, 2 of the 8-ounce platters, and 3 of the 11-ounce platters. Steak Platter Prices

• 6-ounce $9.95

• 8-ounce $12.95

• 11-ounce $15.95

If a gratuity of 18% was added to the bill, which of the following is closest to the total of the steak platters and gratuity, ignoring sales tax?

you have (4) 6-oz platters so you multiply the price of the 6 oz ($9.95) by 4 which gives you 39.80

you have (2) 8-oz platters so you multiply the price of the 8 oz ($12.95) by 2 which gives you 25.90

you have (2) 11 oz platters so you multiply that price (15.95) by 2 which gives you 31.90

so you add all those together 39.80+25.90+31.90 = $97.60

    now ... 16% = 16/100 or 0.16 so to get the total price you multiply 97.60 * 1.16

giving you the total price of 113.216 or rounded to an actual dollar and cents amount 113.22

to find out how much the gratuity alone you would simply multiply 97.60 * 0.16 = $15.62
