A student evaluated - 4+x for x = - 9 1/2 and got the answer 5 1/2 what did the student do wrong

    Well, first let's plug the value of x into the equation:

    -4-9 1/2 = - 13 1/2

    The student didn't pay attention to the negative sign, what he did was 9 1/2 - 4 instead of - 9 1/2 - 4.
