    Rewriting the function we have:

    p = 9200 / D

    We must in this case clear the value of D.

    We have then:

    D = 9200 / p

    Substituting the value of p = 1600 lb we have:

    D = 9200/1600

    D = 5.75 feet

    Answer:

    the distance between supports that is needed to carry 1600 lb is:

    D = 5.75 feet
