Which value of x is in the solution set of the following inequality? - 3x+5>17

    Subtract 5 from both side, divide by-3. You should get X is less than - 4

    -3x + 5 > 17 ... subtract 5 from both sides

    -3x > 17 - 5

    -3x > 12 ... divide both sides by - 3, and change the inequality sign

    x < - 12/3
