Victor makes three different purchases at three different stores in one afternoon. Each time, he spends 1/3 of the money he is carrying. If he ends the day with $16, how much money did he have at the start of the day?

    I believe the answer is 48 and I'll explain why ...

    so I made the problem ...

    -1/3s - 1/3s - 1/3s = 16 then combine like terms ...

    -3/3s = 16 now multiply each by - 3 ...

    -3s = - 48 now divide by 3 ...

    S = 16

    so it's safe to say he started with 48$ ... hope it was some good stuff he bought.
