A rectangle has width w and its length is 3 units shorter than 5 times the width, or 5w - 3. Write a polynomial for the area of the rectangle.

    Width = w

    Length = 5w-3

    Area = (width) * (length)

    Area = w * (5w-3)

    Area = w*5w + w * (-3) ... distributive property

    Area = 5w^2 - 3w

    Answer: 5w^2 - 3w
