Because 3/4 and 3/8 is more than one cup, Jasmine will not be able to mix the flour and the cornmeal in the container.

    3/4+3/8=6/8+3/8=9/8

We know that 8/8 is equivalent to 1 (cup). We have to combine the fractions using a common denominator. A common denominator in this case would be 8. To change 3/4, you must multiply the numerator and denominator by two, because that will give you 8 on the bottom and also, whatever you do to the top you must do to the bottom, and vice versa. So, now we have 3/8 & 6/8. To add fractions you just add the numerators and keep the common denominator. You get 9/8. If 8/8 is 1, than 9/8 exceeds the 1 cup limit, and therefore Jasmine cannot mix the ingredients in that container.
