For a class project, a teacher cuts out 15 congruent circles from a single sheet of paper that measures 6 inches by 10 inches. How many paper is wasted?

    Given:

    Sheet of paper with dimensions: 6 inches by 10 inches

    Cut into 15 congruent circles.

    Area of the paper = 6 inches x 10 inches = 60 in²

    60 in² / 15 circles = 4 in²

    Area of a circle = π r²

    A = 3.14 * (1in) ²

    A = 3.14 in²

    Out of a 4 in² piece of paper, only 3.14 in² can be used to form a circle that has a radius of 1 in.

    3.14 in² x 15 pcs = 47.10 in² total area of all 15 circles

    60 in² - 47.10 in² = 12.90 in² paper is wasted.
