    3 (4y-1) = 2 (5y+1/2) distribute

    12y-3=10y+1

    12y=10y + 4

    2y=4 divide each side by 2

    4 divided by 2 equals 2

    The answer is y=2

    Use distributive property

    a (b+c) = ab+ac

    distribute

    3 (4y-1) = 12y-3

    2 (5y+1/2) = 10y+1

    so nowe we have

    12y-3=10y+1

    subtract 10y from both sides

    2y-3=1

    add 3

    2y=4

    divide 2

    y=2

    y=2
