Subtract 3 from both sides of (*)

Substitute x = 19 in (**)

2 (19) - y = 2 = >

38 - y = 2 = > (add y to both sides)

38 - y + y = 2 + y = >

38 = 2 + y = > (subtract 2 from both sides)
