List the following rational numbers in order from least to greatest. Include inequality symbols.

Which student completed the problem correctly?

Student A: 0.27 < - 7 halves < - 2.7 < - 2.09

Student B: - 7 halves - 2.7 > 0.27

Student C: - 7 halves < - 2.7 < - 2.09 < 0.27

    Okay. - 7 halves is equivalent to - 3.5. 7 * - 0.5 is - 3.5. In this case, 0.27 > - 2.09 > - 2.7 > - 7 halves. - 2.09 > - 2.7, because that number is closer to 0 and goes more towards the right. The farther left a number is on a number line, the smaller it is the the farther right the number is on a number line, the larger it is. Student D completed the problem correctly.
