factor completely x^2 - 4x - 12

    Well x^2 is the same as x-squared (I don't know how to type it).

    So to start off, you have x-squared-4x-12

    Then you just have to combine the x's, and 1x-4x=-3x

    so your final answer would be - 3x-squared-12
