When 24 is subtracted from a number and that difference is multiplied by 1/4, the result is 4. What is the number?

    40 - 24 = 16

    16 * 0.25 = 4

    1/4 (x-24) = 4

    x - 24 = 4*4 = 16

    x = 16+24
