    A - number of students in each van

    b - number of students in each bus

    8a+8b=240

    4a+b=54 = > b=54-4a

    8a+8 (54-4a) = 240

    8a+432-32a=240

    432-240=32a-8a

    192=24a

    a=192/24=8 students in each van

    b=54-4*8=54-32=22 students in each bus
