    Perimiter=2L+2W

    P=2 (L+W)

    if x=width then

    P=2 (L+x)

    P=8x+8

    hmm

    8x+8=2 (L+x)

    distribute

    8x+8=2L+2x

    minus 2x both sides

    6x+8=2L

    divide both sides by 2

    3x+4=L

    the length is 3x+4
